Note: This is currently designed for v5.2 only, the v5.1 hub has a slightly different hole spacing so it won't fit as-is

This is a case mount to attach the MattHub USB hub to the Index audio strap (or the Beyondex mod). The original Beyondex USB cable is too short so I recommend a 12" C to C cable with one right angle end. It also may be easier to use a 3" double straight end c to c cable to connect to the beyond, although the commonly used 6" right angle one still works.

I chose to rotate the hub because the rear port would not provide enough clearance for the usb cable plug to not run into the speaker arm when the speaker is stowed, and moving it enough to clear the speaker arm would stretch the other cables too much.

Materials

For this case mount, you will need:

  • 12" C to C cable, single right end recommended for connecting the Beyondex to the hub (Beyondex included cable too short)

  • 3" straight or 6" right angle C to C cable,  for connecting hub to the Beyond (3" double straight ended is a little cleaner but the common 6" right angle also works)

  • 4x M2x8 socket head for the hub case

  • 2x M3x6 socket head for the index clamp

  • 2x M3 hex nut for the index clamp (included in most M3 kits)

Printing Tips

For easy printing, the 3mf includes a full set of parts including the lid with button already set up in the correct orientation and with supports enabled or blocked where needed. Use "reload from disk" or "replace with STL" to easily swap out parts with their alternate versions (for IndexBackplate and CaseLid) while preserving the orientation/support setup.

If you prefer to set it up yourself, here are all the details:

  • Type: FDM Recommended, SLA depends on the resin (avoid brittle resins), MJF will likely fuse the button

  • Material: PLA, PETG is probably fine too

  • Nozzle: 0.4 highly recommended

    • The hub may be harder to fit in if a larger nozzle is used

  • Infill: 20-30% (not too important)

  • Walls: At least 2, 3 for extra strength

  • Layer Height: 0.2

    • (You can do 0.1 for the case backplate and case lid if you're obsessive about surface finish)

    • (The index mount and backplate print more than fine at 0.2)

  • Orientation & Supports:

    • IndexMount: Print standing in the original orientation, enable organic supports for the larger holes but block the unnecessary ones on the hub mount holes

    • IndexBackplate: Choose an offset variant if your speaker cables aren't centered. Print flat side down, enable supports in the screw holes and pop them out with an allen key

    • CaseBackplate: Print flat side down - be sure to swap this out with a variant if your Beyondex wires are off-center!

    • CaseLid: Pick the lid you want (with or without the button) and print upside down. If printing the button variant, block supports inside the button divot. Lids here are the same as the v5.2 lids from:

Assembly

Be sure your speaker wires are routed through the cutout in the IndexBackplate. There are several versions with different locations, so if your speaker cables aren't vertically centered, be sure to print the one that lines up best with your cable management.

  1. Start with the IndexBackplate only - place the hex nuts over the holes and screw in the M3 screws to pull the nut into the recess. It's much easier to do this before putting the Mount and Backplate together, since it's hard to reach through both pieces with the screw to reach the nut if the nut isn't already in the hole. Remove the screw after the nut has been seated fully.

  2. Test fit the IndexBackplate on the inside of the arm and verify that the cable channel lines up with your Beyondex cables as to not pinch them

  3. Clamp the IndexBackplate and IndexMount around the arm and tighten with the M3 screws. There is some leeway for how the mount is positioned, just make sure you're clear of the speaker when it's in the stowed position.

  4. Pop out the supports from the CaseLid screw holes by pushing an M2 screw through the opposite way

  5. Close the CaseBackplate and CaseLid around the hub and thread the M2 screws through. Tighten into the IndexMount. The case will only attach to the mount in 2 ways due to the rectangular hole pattern, and you probably want the direction where one of the USB C ports is facing the front of the headset.
