Ortur Laser Master 2 Enclosure

Description

!!! Work in Progress !!!

I designed this enclosure for my Ortur Laser Master 2 after I lost my safety goggles.

Most commercially available enclosures are larger than 700 × 700 mm, which felt like overkill for a 400 × 400 mm laser engraver. So, I decided to build my own, with outer dimensions of approximately 640 × 640 mm, allowing it to fit neatly on my 600 mm-deep workbench.

In addition, I integrated a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W for Wi-Fi control, along with a built-in fan and power supply unit. For easier and cleaner cable management, I also added drag chains for the X and Y axes.

This enclosure may not be the most rigid, but it is smaller, lighter, and more affordable than commercially available options.

Further updates and improvements are planned and will be added as soon as I find the time for them.

Assembly Instructions

Begin with the base plate assembly. Glue four of the corner brackets to the sheet material using contact glue. Depending on the screws and materials you are using, pre-drilling may be required. Align the base edge beams with the corresponding recessed areas in the corner brackets and drive in the screws.

Apply some glue to the base-bracket-edge and align it between the beams in the middle of the base edge. Pre-drill if necessary, then secure it with screws. Next, add the base beams and the center bracket to complete the lower support structure.

The base framework is complete. Attach the columns to the four corners and glue in the side walls. Then mount the top four corner brackets by gluing and screwing them to the side walls, aligning them with the recessed edges of the columns. Finally, repeat this process for the top edge beams and the top edge bracket.

Mount the edge beams with the hinge mounting holes on opposite sides. Apply some glue in the gaps where the side walls will slide in.

Attach the hinges with the hinge knuckle facing outward. Screw the cover-hinged beams to the hinges. Apply glue to these beams and press the cover plate into place.

Repeat the gluing process for the shorter side beams, then add the three overlap beams to one side of the cover, facing upward.

That's it. :)

3D printed parts

Frame:
  1. Corner-Bracket
    Print 8x
Connects all edge beams and columns. Allows sheet material up to 3 mm thick to be recessed and aligned within the edges of the bracket.

If you are using machine screws instead of wood or self-tapping screws, use alternating screw holes, as the nuts may otherwise interfere with each other.

  2. Column
    Print 4x
Vertical connectors that join the corner brackets and provide structural rigidity.

  3. Base-Beam
    Print 4x
Structural support for stabilizing the base plate.

  4. Base-Edge-Beam
    Print 8x
Connects the lower corner brackets and supports the base plate.

  5. Base-Bracket-Edge
    Print 4x
Links the base edge beams to the base beams, adding an extra alignment edge for the side walls and the base plate.

  6. Base-Bracket-Center
    Print 1x
Links the base beams while providing structural support for the base plate.

  7. Top-Edge-Beam
    Print 4x
Functions like the base edge beam, providing a second inner wall to securely clamp the side walls and enhance structural rigidity.

  8. Top-Edge-Beam-RessesdHinge
    Print 4x
Similar to the top edge beam, but with holes and recessed areas for the hinges.

  9. Top-Edge-Bracket
    Print 4x
    Links the top edge beams.

  10. Cover-Hinged-Beam
    Print 4x
Reinforces the top plate and includes mounting holes for the hinges.

  11. Cover-Overlap-Beam
    Print 3x
Provides reinforcement for the top plate and features an overlapping edge bridging the gap between the top plates.

  12. Cover-Short-Beam
    Print 4x
Provides reinforcement for the top plate.

Mounts:
  1. Nema17-DragChainMount-Overscaled
    Print 2x
Rescaling may be necessary, as the fit depends on your printer configuration.
Designed to attach the drag chain to the NEMA 17 motors.
