SMD Box - ESD Safe, Snappable, Parametric

Overview

Organize your SMD components with this parametric, snappable storage system. Features ESD-safe construction and a color-coded paper insert system for quick component identification.

Features

• Snappable design - boxes connect together for modular storage

• Unit system - different sizes of boxes snap together seamlessly

• Parametric - tweak it, break it, make it yours - no guarantees if you do

• ESD-safe - print body and lids in PETG-ESD for full static protection

• Color-coded inserts - 3D printable inserts included, but paper is easier (14mm x 12mm)

Print Settings

• Layer height: 0.2mm

• Lids: Print right side down (vertical) for ideal springiness of lock mechanism

• Lids wall width: 0.33mm recommended - gives more than outside walls only, which may debond

• Filament on photos: Fiberon™ PETG-ESD

• First layer: 290°C, bed 80°C

• Other layers: 270°C, bed 70°C

• Rest identical to regular PETG

Assembly

• Insert filament into hinge and seal with soldering iron (flat tip recommanded)

• Hinge area may crack with ESD filament - remelting is recommended

• Make sure to respect width of the hinge area when melting

• Do it while open to maintain pretension

Recommended Materials

• Box body & lid: PETG-ESD (electrostatic discharge safe)

•  Lid inserts: Colored paper (14mm x 12mm) with black text/background

•  Hardware boxes: Whatever you have on hand.  Beware that snapping system may be too stiff with PLA.

Color Coding System

• 🔴 Red - MOSFETs, Transistors (ESD sensitive)

• 🔵 Blue - ICs, Voltage Regulators

• 🟡 Yellow - Capacitor

• 🟢 Green - LEDs

• 🟣 Purple - Diodes, TVS/ESD Protection

• ⚫ White (black bg) - Resistors, Potentiometers

• ⚪ White - Buttons, Headers, Fuses, Relays

• (3 lines, ~8 char max)

Notes

• Model uses basic tolerances of 0.2mm

• Holds 0805 and bigger parts well

• Single resistors may escape when flipped - do not recommend flipping

• Bigger boxes are on the way - design may change to address issues with pretension and sealing
