Description

Welcome to the Modular Chess Board V2. This project was designed with two main goals in mind: total customization and printing efficiency. Whether you are a chess enthusiast or looking for a quick, satisfying print project, this board allows you to mix and match colors without needing to reprint the entire frame.

✨ Key Features

  • Fully Interchangeable Tiles: The board features a "snap-fit" tile system. This means you can easily swap colors whenever you want. Tired of Black vs. White? Switch to Purple vs. White simply by printing a new set of tiles, not the whole board!

  • Fast & Lightweight: The design is optimized to save material and time.

    • Performance: The entire set (board + tiles) was printed in less than 24 hours on a stock Ender 3.

  • Modular Assembly: The frame consists of four identical quarters that interlock to form the full board.

📂 Files Included

  1. QuarterChessBoard.stl: The frame structure.

    • Quantity to print: 4

  2. ChessTile.stl: The individual squares.

    • Quantity to print: 32 (Color A) and 32 (Color B).

⚙ Printing & Assembly Notes

  • Tolerances: The model has been designed with built-in tolerances for a snug fit.

    • Note: I did not need to use "XY Hole Compensation" or "Horizontal Expansion" settings on my printer. However, results may vary depending on your printer's calibration, I recommend printing one Quarter Board and a couple of Tiles first to test the fit for your specific machine.

  • Supports: No supports are needed.

  • Infill: 15-20% is sufficient for durability.
    Material:
i use PLA, but PETG can be better because the friction of the pieces (but i didn't test it).

🚀 Future Roadmap

This is currently the first Version. Depending on the community reception and feedback, I have plans to upgrade the design. Future updates may include:

  • 🧲 Magnet Support: Embedded slots for magnets for a premium feel.

  • 📦 Storage Solution: A custom box or case to store and transport the disassembled board.

  • 🎒 Portable Version: A travel-friendly iteration.

If you like this model, please leave a Like and post a Make! Your feedback encourages me to work on the upgrades mentioned above.

Happy printing!
