This mount attaches to the metal rail of a suspended ceiling without requiring any holes in the panel. The two halves slide between the bottom of the rail and the panel and hold the mounting base provided with the detector, which then attaches the same as if the base were screwed to the panel.
It was designed specifically for the Kidde i9040 detector, widely available from major retailers. The mounting base measures 96.25 mm diameter, and the rim is 7.65 mm high, so any other detector whose mounting base meets those measurements should fit.
It does require support beneath the latches, but not beneath the hooks.
To install, slide the thin part of one side of the backplate between the rail and the ceiling panel. Slip the mounting plate in place, aligning the hole in the plate with the nub on the mounting plate. Then slide the other half in from the other side and align the latch tabs and the nub with the mounting plate until the latch engages.
I have seen a number of statements indicating that a 3D printer is a potential fire hazard, and while I believe that is unlikely, as an electronics technician I do recognize that some of the connections to the main board carry relatively large currents, and if those connections become oxidized the terminal can get very hot and potentially cause failure of the main board, which conceivably could let the smoke out of the components. So I decided to mount a smoke detector above each of my printers. I chose the least expensive one available from my local WalMart and designed the mount around it.
I don't require payment for my designs, but if you find this useful, I'd appreciate it if you would buy me a coffee.
