This is a 5cm extension for VKB Gladiator joystick that retains the twist axis action. After couple of iterations and few of hours of flying I'm happy to share this.

Before diving in... THIS MOD MIGHT BRAKE YOUR JOYSTICK. YOU WERE WARNED!

Instructions:

  • print p1 part with organic support (see pic), p2 can be printed without support

  • remove the support and any residue (it's important! the joystick shaft needs to reach the floor were the screws come)

  • open the joystick base, unplug and remove the stick

  • apply some lubricant to Gladiator's shaft (stop laughing and do it! it will save you some trouble ;)

  • on p1 locate the side with 2 round recesses and 5 cuts that looks like a sad robot : | | | | |

  • align it with the right side of the stick and put it on (the fit is very snug, but shouldn't require excessive force)

  • secure p1 with the original screws

  • put p2 on and align it with p1

  • there are two holes on p2 for locking it on p1, those holes go all the way through and align with p1 holes

  • use M2.5 screw and lock p2 (M3 should work too, one screw should be enough, two for good measures)

Now you should have the extension mounted on the joystick, with the cable sticking out and you are ready to attach it to the gimbal in the base.

  • apply lubricant to extension's shaft ***be careful**! insert the extension in to the base and the gimbal - the gimbal is delicate and the fit is tight

  • check that the extension went all the way through, if not, don't force it, remove, use sanding paper to adjust the extension and try again.

  • use 3 M2.5 screws to secure the extension to the gimbal.

  • plug the cable back

The original cable length is enough, but I've a protective sleeve over it to prevent wear (might be an overkill)

About print setting. Parts need to be strong and precise. I've used PETG and 3 walls and upped the temps by 5C from my defaults.

I took the original shaft shape from LucaMK1612. Thanks for providing the step file! I'm adding one too, so you can mod this.
