While working on some Shapeoko CNC projects I found myself needing to store some endmills I had purchased that came in a large bulky container that was not practical. I went online looking for the kind of small slip in storage that other endmills I had came with. Could not find any that were cheap or quick to get so I designed one myself using an existing one I had as reference.

Designed in Fusion 360.

This model is designed for 1/4 shank endmills up to 3in long.

It is a friction fit in the base and if you find its to tight then you can increase the scale by a few percent to get the tight fit you want on the base.

The caps are also pretty tight fit, but after installing and removing them a few times they should come off easier, small detentes on both the cap and base should secure them, they have no specific orientation as they are on all 4 corners

In the picture the Orange one is the reference and the green ones are the ones I made.

I only made one base, but created 5 different heights for the caps, from 60mm to 85mm, these are the lengths of the caps themselves, overall the tallest cap plus base is 90mm or about 3.5 inches overall

The model should already be oriented with the open end of the caps up, if its not then rotate the model till the open end is up.

No supports required for any parts.

All my parts are printed out of PETG at .20 layer height on a Prusa XL, PLA may work for the base but given the already tight tolerances it might not bend enough

Tips for printing transparent PETG-

  1. Increase extrusion temp by 5-10c

  2. increase extrusion to between 1.01 to 1.05

  3. Slow print speeds to 20mm/s max for all extrusion

  4. Turn off print fan

  5. Dry filament before use, even if its kept in a dry box or fresh from the packaging.
