Fishing lure - concept - untested!
I love fishing and though I would try my hand at making my own 3D printed lure - nothing massive but something with options. I also did not want it to be perfectly smooth.
I also like airbrush painting so whatever PLA I used did not matter to me.
I also wanted it to be something I would run a wire through for security if say (hoping) a large pike bit it and the lure came apart the wire hanger would keep the fish on the hook.
I wanted adjustable areas where I could add weights and remove them for testing purposes. I also wanted a simple orientation dowel - nothing perfect but to also act as a float within the body.
I wanted Eye holes so I can either fit whatever type of eyes I chose. (Of note - the creality slicer allows you to add these to a model which i how I did it as I had forgotten to do so in blender.
This is not a perfectly symmetrical lure - its what I was going for 'in my thoughts that fish are not always perfect shapes' thought process.
So ... I have created a fishing lure with a lip to be a floating diving style lure.
the top front oval cut is for the oval dowel. the dowel can not be a solid print - must be as sparsely filled as you can so it acts as a float trapping air inside it.
The rear oval is an air pocket which you can add a rattle too - such as a single small ball bearing. Careful not to make the lure too heavy.
Bottom two spheres for weights to be added - also be careful not to make the lure too heavy .
I suggest playing with the sink rate in some water first - remember split rings and hooks also add weight and will likely be enough allowing all the other voids to be empty bar the rear oval for your rattle. Also when glued together if the seal is really good the voids become air pockets which will add bouancy.
My first attempt I filled the whole thing with lead and it sinks like a stone.
Second lure FILE has a shallower lip and slightly different geometry.
They are still in testing phase and yet to catch fish. I will update the files and build with weights to be added - hooks and hardware options as and when I get chance to test them more.
FOR NOW they are un proven. If i get a perfect sink rate and wobble with them ill upload a final version.
Happy for people to tweek and make asthetic improvements etc.
Its all about having fun
Update - Print 15% - no supports for main body.
The oval float/dowel insert is optional as I have now found the file size is too big and needs shrinking a little.
I have printed and glued both patters with no through wire or weights. they float well with the allotted air pockets.
Further testing will continue ...!
