Description

I found there weren’t many options for Blue Alpine tray stackers after getting a freeze dryer in December 2025. I needed to utilize the space in my actual freezer more efficiently as part of the prep process to eventually freeze dry certain foods, so I set out to create some stackers.

These stackers are primarily designed to be used with the silicone mats that also come from Blue Alpine. They work without, however they lean further into the pan after being hooked on the edge during initial setup. After placing the next tray on top, there isn’t really any difference between having the silicone mat or not. The stacker will secure itself behind the top lip of the next pan which holds it in place and stable.

Overall I’m pretty happy with the result, and want to share it with others. Let me know if you have any feedback, and I’m happy to continue improving on this design. There is a standard size and a tall size. I prefer the standard size because they are more stable when stacking higher, but both options work fine.

Last but not least, please do not use these in the actual freeze dryer. They are only intended to be used for stacking trays in a standard freezer.

NOTE ON TRAY COMPATIBILITY: I designed and use these with the Blue Alpine medium trays. I was told they also work on the large trays after another user printed them and tried them out on the large trays. Also I heard they changed their tray design sometime in late 2024, so be aware these are designed for the latest model of trays.

NOTE ABOUT FOOD SAFETY: Although PLA and various other 3D printed plastics are considered food safe, the process of printing and the final product are not food safe. This is due to the layer lines and tiny areas that can hold bacteria. These stackers are intended to be used on the edge of the pan and not be in contact with food. If they need cleaned, use warm water and dish soap. Avoid using a dishwasher because it will likely warp them due to the high temperatures.
