This is my attempt to improve Almondtofu's wonderful Coffee Block modular tamping station system. The main change is replacing the locking tabs on the blocks and side panels with female dovetail slots. These are then attached together with bowtie connectors. This approach has a few advantages:
Blocks can be put in any orientation - All female block joints means that a block can be placed in any orientation without having to redesign and reprint it if you want it rotated.
It is much easier to test fit parts for the perfect tolerance - If the connector tolerances are too tight or too loose, you just have to reprint a small connector piece, not an entire block.
Side panels can be printed flat without supports - This is nice if you want the bed texture of the outside of your panels. It can also be faster to print in this orientation.
After printing a couple blocks of the original design and realizing that my tolerances were too tight to ever get the parts disconnected again, I thought about an easier way to go about this. I think that this modification helps take full advantage of the modular aspect of this design.
Print your Blocks:
As with the original design, the blocks are 80x80x80mm. Print whatever block you need, and use the blank-block2 part to make your own. As mentioned above, these blocks can be placed in any orientation.
Print your Panels:
As with the original design, you need to print a corner piece for each corner of your tamping station. Other than that, it's pretty straightforward which panels you need.
Print the connectors:
It might be worthwhile to start off printing a couple different connectors with different tolerances to make sure your pieces will be snug. Once you've got that dialed, print a bunch of connectors. It doesn't hurt to have a couple extra.
I've also added the Fusion and step files to make it easier to customize blocks for your own needs.
