NEW: Version 3.0

The new version fixes an issue that randomly might happen, that while the 3d-printhead travels the z-axis the filament guide crane+hook flip back behind the spool. This usually only happens at the beginning of a print if the print head was very high on z-axis before the start.

Printing

  • Print both parts with 100% infill for better stability

  • Use circular filling and 4-5 wall loops for high stability

Additional material

The new version suggests to add a hex nut of wrench size 30. Tipp: if you don't have this hex nut available just put a smaller one into the place with some hot glue.

Installation

The new crane contains a counterweight arm where you should apply a steel hex nut for wrench size 30. This will avoid that the filament guide swings back behind the spool, when the 3d-printhead travels the z-axis.

The new hook provides now 5 different locations/loops for the filament to go through. Pick the one that fits best for your spool. Some spools are wide, some are narrow, so adjust it according to your needs.

OLD/LEGACY: Version 2.0

You print both parts (crane & hook) and push the hook-base into the crane. Afterwards apply it to the spool as shown in the photo. It helps keeping the filament especially on new/full spools in place (i.e. not jumping from the spool) and avoids tangling when the Z-gantry moves up and down.

For better stability/longlasting use maybe use 100% infill.
