Here are a set of parts to make templates for the various foambaord pieces needed to build the Stingray FPV plate by @Qrome.

This is overkill if you just plan to build one Stingray.  For that you are better off printing the split paper template and sticking the sheets together.  But, if like me you plan to build multiple airframes, for say a club group build, this makes a set of reusable templates.  Each piece doesn't use much filament, so this project is ideal for using up all those odd filament reels with a small amount of filament remaining. Finally, the parts can taped together insread of glueing making storage and transport much easier.

Only half of the main wing and the bottom KF step are supplied to save printing, just trace/cut one half and flip the template over for the other side.  For some foamboard sizes it is actually convenient to cut out two wing halves and stick them together during the build. There are pin holes down the centreline to help with alignment.

Due to the number of parts they are supplied in ZIP files in the "Other files" section below along with various PDFs to show how the parts fit together: StingrayFPV_Templates_PartLayout.pdf and suggestions for laying them out on various foamboard sizes. E.g.

  • StingrayFPV_Templates_SheetLayout_DTFB.pdf

  • StingrayFPV_Templates_SheetLayout_A1.pdf

  • StingrayFPV_Templates_SheetLayout_1000x500 and

  • StingrayFPV_Templates_SheetLayout_800x600

There are three template groups to suit common thicknesses Foamboard and Depron: 4.2mm, 5mm and 6mm.

  • 4.2mm or 3/16in is the normal thickness of Dollar Tree and Flitetest Foamboard

  • 5mm is common in the UK and Europe.

  • 6mm is a common thickness for Depron.

For each of these thickness there are three options based on your 3D printer bed area.  Note that you will find some 180sq labelled parts in the 250mm sq zip files and some 250mm sq parts in the 300mm sq zip files where the extra bed area was not enough to reduce the part count.

  • 180mm sq bed.  E.g Bambu Labs A1 mini

  • 250mm sq bed. E.g. Bambu Labs A1, P1S, etc

  • 300mm sq bed. E.g. Sovol SV08

Pick the ZIP file for the foamboard thickness and bed size you have.

The parts are designed for printing with either a 0.4mm or 0.6mm nozzle.  On the Bambu Labs A1 mini the larger nozzle makes little difference to the total print time, probably due to volumetric extrusion rate limiting.

Nozzle size

Total time (including warmup)

maximum speed (mm/s)

0.4mm

48m 40s

250mm/s

0.6mm

45m 35s

53mm/s

These parts have been generated using Solidworks derived configurations where one small change can have unpredictable results.  I have been through multiple times to ensure all the parts are correct and consistent, but let me know if you find any errors.
