There are a lot of angle grinder disc holder models, but I couldn't find one with the exact set of characteristics that I wanted:
fits 4.5" discs with 7/8 arbor
has the column attached to the base, not the top, so that you can take the top off and select the disc you want
is the right height for my packout toolbox
After a year of using my original version of this model, I discovered that being thrown around in my angle grinder box and schlepped to various metal shops was a bit too much for the plastic. Unsurprisingly, the failure point is where the post joins the base. The layer lines are in the wrong direction to resist lateral stresses. This part can be made stronger using a deep fillet and more perimeters, but why stop there?
This new model uses a 1/4-20 screw (up to 3" long) to connect the post to the base. This makes a much stronger joint.
