This is a tray for carrying a set of based miniatures, without any risk of dropping them. It is originally meant for carrying a Blood Bowl team, but may be used for other miniatures too.
Limitations
The tray is intended for 4 rows of 4 (16 total) miniatures on a 32mm base. Slightly smaller base sizes may still work, but has not been tested. The bases are expected to be around 3-4mm high. Higher bases might not work and has not been tested. Be aware that the tray may wear on the base where it touches the edge/top . I have not noticed anything in the preliminary tests, but be warned.
How to use
Slide the base of the miniature into the slot. When done, insert the pin at the open end to make sure the miniatures cannot slide out. The pin has a simple locking mechanism to prevent it sliding out easily.
Instead of the pin, you could probably also just use an elastic band that spand the width of the tray.
There are optional dividers that can slide into the rows, to seperate models and to keep distance between the models and anything above. There should be space for a divider between each model in the row.
Printing instructions
Print the version you like. The images above showcase the 4x4 (4 rows, with 4 models) variant, with the 4-row pin. The divider shown in the image is the 65cm variant.
Print in the orientation provided. Supports should not be nessecary.
The example in the images are printed with PLA Matte using the 0.16mm layer height "optimal" preset in Bambu Studio. Tolerances should acommodate less precision with no problems, but the ease of the models sliding might be affected.
Variations
There are several variations of tray sizes. Print whatever size suits your needs. The 4x4 is enough to carry an entire Blood Bowl team, but 4x3 or 3x4 is enough if you dont have many reserve players.
The 5x4 with the 65mm dividers fits nicely in a Bambu filament box (with a bit space left over).
I have uploaded a fully parametric Fusion 360 project, so also feel free to make your own variant by tweaking the parameters.
Future plans / Ideas
There are still improvements and slight tweaks that can be made, but it all depends on the use cases. If you have any ideas for improvements, or is unsatisfied with any aspect of the design, please let me know.
Plans that i MIGHT implement in the future:
- A "shell" that can slide around the tray, protecting the miniatures.
- Built in storage space for dice and/or tokens
- Variants for other base sizes.
