Build-Your-Own Wizard Wands

My daughter was hosting a Hogwarts-themed party and asked me to design wands that each participant could build when they first arrived. I designed modular Wands that screw together consisting of 12 unique Handles, 12 unique Knobs and 8 unique Accent Rings. I then printed the Wand parts in 8 different colors and the Knobs and Rings in 12 different colors. This resulted in literally millions of build combinations! The wands were a big hit, so I thought I should share them.

Printing/Assembly Instructions:

1. I added "elephant ears" to the Wand parts (Handles, Tip and Middle) to help with stability while printing. Simple cut them off after printing. No other supports are required for these parts.

2. These are slender parts and the joints are delicate. I added holes in the top of the Handles and the top of the Middle where a M3x30 socket head cap screw can be screwed in to provide added strength (think of this like adding rebar to concrete!). Unfortunately, the pointer section of the wand does not have enough room for the screw head. So, install the screw and then cut the head off with bolt cutters. You can see the installed screws in the photo of the disassembled Wand. While these are not absolutely necessary, they will help with make the wand joints stronger. The Wands will assemble just fine without the screws, so don't let that stop you!

3. The Accent Rings are uploaded as a single set. You can print the entire set in different colors, or separate them into separate parts in your slicer.

4. The Knobs will need supports enabled. You should suppress the supports on the threads so the supports are easier to remove.

5. There is room on the Knobs for one Accent Ring and on the Handle for three Accents Rings.
