Suitcase/trolley wheel gone bust? Don't add it to the waste pile - fix it instead!

This is a replacement wheel for suitcases that uses standard hardware and printable parts.

Features:
  • It's dimensions are 50mm diameter, 18mm width, that fits into a 24mm wide track

  • Uses a 6mm binding post screw axle and standard 608zz skateboard bearings

  • The outer TPU tire interfaces with the hub using 2 grooves that prevent it from slipping off

  • The outer surface is slightly radiused (convex) to help with tracking and turning

  • Hub with spokes that introduce additional walls for a stronger print

Hardware you will need:
  • 2x bearings, 608zz type  or equivalent

  • 6mm shaft diameter binding post screw at the right length for your wheel assembly (also sometimes called a Chicago screw)

Parts to print:
  • Main hub, internal middle spacer, and axle bushings - print in PETG

  • Tire - print in TPU or other flexible filament with a high durometer (I used 95A)

  • Use at least 5-6 perimeters and 20% infill

Assembly instructions:
  1. Clean and de-burr the print, especially inner bore interfaces that can't be accessed after assembly.

  2. Stretch TPU tire over the hub - just a bit of stretching and a firm push should suffice.

  3. Press a bearing into one side, then the spacer, then the other bearing. You can use a vise to press the bearings flush with the hub, if the fit is too tight to press by hand.

  4. Insert the bushings from both sides.

  5. Position the wheel in the wheel assembly, lining up the holes.

  6. Insert binding post through both sides of the assembly and the wheel, and screw in the screw.
