Satellite1 Desktop Speaker – High-Fidelity 1.5L Enclosure (DMA80 + DMA105-PR)

Elevate your local voice assistant with this premium, acoustically optimized enclosure designed specifically for the FutureProofHomes Satellite1 Dev Kit.

Unlike standard smart speaker housings, this design focuses on true "Desktop Audio" quality. By leveraging a Passive Radiator setup, it achieves deep, punchy bass and a rich sound profile within a compact 1.5-liter volume—perfect for Home Assistant Assist, Snapcast, and Music Assistant.

Key Audio Features

  • Driver Support: Modeled for the Dayton Audio DMA80-4 (3" Full-Range Driver).

  • Passive Radiator: Integrated mount for the Dayton Audio DMA105-PR, allowing for tuned low-frequency response without the chuffing noise and big footprint of a traditional port.

  • 1.5L Internal Volume: Carefully calculated and simulated to balance the excursion of the DMA80 with the radiator's tuning.

  • Rigid Construction: Features internal ribbing and structural reinforcement to minimize cabinet resonance and sound coloration.

  • Built-in DSP: Full control via the Satellite1 to tune the sound exactly to your liking.

Satellite1 Integration

  • Perfect Fit: Custom mounts for the Satellite1 Core and Audio HAT.

  • Power & Access: Easy access to the USB-C Power Delivery port located at the back.

  • LED Diffusion: Clever design allows the Satellite1’s ring of 24 LEDs to shine through without needing a multi-material printer.

Assembly & Printing Tips

Printing:

  • Supports: Only the Bottom-Plate requires supports. All other parts are designed to print without them.

  • Wall Count: Use at least 4-5 walls to ensure the enclosure is airtight and rigid.

Assembly Highlights:

  • Heat-Inserts: For the best experience, pause the print of the housing to insert the heat-set inserts. They are much easier to reach before the enclosure is fully closed!

  • LED-Ring: If you don't have any kind of multimaterial printer, just print the white parts first and the rest second.

  • Magnetic Faceplate: Pause the faceplate print before the magnet pockets are closed. Drop the magnets in and let the printer finish the job for a seamless look.

  • Sealing: Use flexible glue or silicone to ensure the electronics box is 100% airtight to the inside of the Speaker. Also use TPU to print the gaskets (The speaker needs to be airtight, to function properly.) Dont forget to also seal the USB Port.

  • Finishing: The faceplate is designed to be assembled with speaker fabric and its dedicated frame using a bit of glue or silicone.

  • Damping: To get the best sound, use alu-butyl sheets on the inside of the housing to dampen its resonance-frequency. Also use some acoustic wool inside of the housing.

I’d love to see your builds! If you print this, please upload a make and share your setup.
