Usage considerations:
This snap (and all of my other rokenbok related work) is licensed under CC BY-NC-SA. This means you may take and remix provided you breadcrumb back to this model page, you may not sell, and your remixes/models using it must also be BY-NC-SA.
When using your own modification of this snap design, please distinguish it from the snaps offered on this page.
When using this snap design directly in your creations, please reference it as "BV{version}". So if V2 from this page is used, call it "BV2".
This will hopefully prevent confusion about what snaps are being used where. Maybe I'm overthinking it 😂
=====
Part of my Rokenbok modeling journey included coming up with a new snap design that could be more easily printed while being more durable than the original Rokenbok snaps designed for injection molded ABS. My V1 optimized snap worked pretty well, but made it so the Rokenbok teardown key would not work. In addition, the later (and current production) Rokenbok snaps were redesigned at some point to be double sided and allow offset snapping to half block intervals. My V1 snap could not do that either.
Enter V2, my (hopefully) final optimized snap design. It carries over features like conical curves and featureless 45 degree overhangs for fast and clean printing and easy snapping. I've uploaded three types of snap model for use:
Just the left and right snap. Loading these into a project and moving them might not preserve their alignment, but gives the most control.
Combined with head-space. This model includes the first 2.5mm of a beam to connect the snaps and provide the proper head-spacing for the teardown tool. Keeping the 1mm wall thickness behind the snaps is recommended.
Combined with a thin strap. This model is for ease of integration, as the strap preserves their spacing and gives a convenient face for center joint alignment. select the center of the outward face for alignment or it will be 0.1mm off (if this is confusing it should make more sense once in your CAD program)
Included are the three individual 3mf files and a combined step file. I've also included a model of the V1 snap for context and posterity. Keep in mind that these snaps are designed to tolerance, and are not accounting for material shrinkage when printing as it varies greatly filament to filament (and that should be handled in slicer anyway).
