Vacuum plugin: needle

This plugin is designed to be used with the Vacuum plugin holder.

It is a thin tool that can clean narrow spaces, such as the gaps between furniture and walls, or car interiors. The design consists of three parts:

• the plugin attachment, which allows the needle to be attached to the Vacuum plugin holder.

• The needle body, which is a cylindrical part with printed screws at the bottom and at the top of it, allowing you to decide the length of the needle. Each part has a length of 100mm.

• The needle tip, which is similar to the needle body, but without the printed screw on the top. This part is also 100mm long.

You can assemble the needle by screwing the parts together. Print as many needle body parts as you want, depending on the length you need.

Here you can find two designs, the only difference between them is internal and external diameters of the needle and the size of the printed screws. See the dimensions section for more details.

In addition to these two designs, you can also find two conversion parts, one going from 20mm external diameter to 30mm external diameter, and one from 30mm external diameter to 20mm external diameter. These parts can be used if you want to reuse different needle bodies to build a longer one. The height of the conversion parts is 100mm, just like the needle body parts.

PLA works well for this design, no technical materials are needed. Print it as it is shipped: vertical orientation, with the screw threads facing upwards, no supports needed, 10% infill (use any pattern you like, it does not really matter) and it should be ready to use right after printing!

⚠ Caution

For lengths longer than 500mm, the 20mm design may start to produce a whistling noise. It really depends on the power of your vacuum and the cleanliness of the vacuum filter. Consider using the 30mm design if you do not need a very thin needle, as it does not suffer from this issue even at 1000mm length, or at least, it does not have this issue in my tests.

Converter top screw: M15x1.5 6g right hand.

Print settings

• Nozzle diameter: HF 0.4mm.

• Layer height: 0.2mm.

• Perimeters: 2.

• Infill: 10% gyroid (or any pattern you like).

• Solid layers: keep the default settings (5 top and 3 bottom).

• Supports: none.
