The High-Performance Free-Flight Glider is designed to bridge the gap between "toy" gliders and engineering projects. I moved away from a complex V-tail design to a standard T-Tail configuration to ensure maximum yaw stability and to prevent the "death spiral" common in small-scale aircraft.
Key Design Features:
Optimal Proportions: A 250mm fuselage paired with a 90mm chord wing for high lift and low wing loading.
Self-Leveling Geometry: The wings feature a 5° dihedral, allowing the glider to naturally level itself during flight.
Passive Stability: The horizontal stabilizer is set with a slight positive angle of incidence to keep the nose up in a steady glide.
Ultra-Lightweight: Designed specifically to be printed with a single wall (0.4mm nozzle) and minimal infill.
Print Settings:
Material: PLA (LW-PLA recommended for advanced users).
Walls: 1 wall for wings/tail; 2 walls for the nose/fuselage.
Infill: 2-3% Gyroid for the fuselage; 0% for wings (if using internal ribs).
Layer Height: 0.2mm for a balance of speed and surface finish.
