This is a fully parametric light box designed for photographing 2D printed items (stickers, photos, cards, labels, etc.) with clean, even lighting and minimal reflections. It’s intended to be quick to print, easy to adapt, and efficient with filament.

The box is generated in OpenSCAD and can be customized to suit your printer, your lighting setup, and the size of the items you want to photograph.

What this model does

The script creates a hollow light box with rounded corners and optional openings so you can:

  • Place a light, phone, or tablet over the top as a diffused light source.

  • Shoot from the front or side while keeping other light out.

  • Use it as a simple, controlled “mini studio” for flat objects.

It’s especially handy if you do a lot of documentation or product photos of paper or vinyl prints.

Key features

  • Configurable size

    • Built‑in presets for common Prusa and Bambu printers (Mini, MK3/S, XL, X1C, P1, etc.).

    • A custom option lets you set your own outer dimensions.

    • Wall thickness is adjustable, so you can trade strength vs print time/weight.

  • Smart rounded geometry

    • Separate controls for wall radius, floor radius and roof radius.

    • Negative values automatically scale radii from the box size (e.g. “half of the smallest dimension”), so the shape adapts cleanly when you change overall size.

  • Tapered exterior – saves filament, no supports

    • Optional taper on the floor and/or back wall reduces material towards the outside while keeping the inner volume usable.

    • Shaped so it prints flat on the bed without supports while still looking clean and finished.

  • Configurable openings

    • Toggle which sides are open: X, Y, and/or top (Z).

    • Optional top cutout with adjustable size, radius and position – ideal for placing a phone light, LED panel, or tablet over the opening.

  • Top lip for screens/lamps

    • Optional raised lip around the top opening to stop devices sliding off.

    • Lip height and thickness are configurable.

  • Anti‑warp wall pattern

    • Optional wall pattern to help resist warping and add stiffness.

    • Modes:

      • slat – simple vertical slats.

      • brick – brick‑like pattern with rounded rectangles.

    • Pattern depth and width are configurable and scale relative to wall thickness.

Included STLs

Alongside the OpenSCAD file, there are pre‑generated STLs sized to maximise the build area on:

  • Prusa printers (Mini, MK3/S, XL, etc.)

  • Bambu printers (Mini, A1, X1C, P1 series, H2 series)

These presets are sized to fit just inside the usable build volume, making the most of your printer’s bed size for the largest possible light box without fiddling with dimensions.

Printing tips

  • Print in white or very light matte filament for best diffusion and minimal color casting.

  • 0.2 mm layer height works well; you can go coarser if you want a quicker, more textured interior.

  • No supports required if you keep the default taper and radius settings.

  • Increase wall thickness if you plan to use very bright lights or want a stiffer box.
