CosmoMatrix Orion-1 is a custom-designed sci-fi heavy-lift rocket designed and modeled in Autodesk Fusion for 3D printing. The design is inspired by historic launch vehicles such as the Space Shuttle, Space Launch System (SLS), the Saturn V, and spacecraft from the Apollo program, combining elements like a central core stage, side boosters, and a multi-engine base into a single fictional launch vehicle.

The project focuses on translating an original hand-drawn concept into a clean, symmetric CAD model that can be printed in separate parts and assembled into a detailed display rocket. I tried to make it look as sci-fi as possible. Maybe the future projects can have a more sci-fi look.

Printing Guide

If you are printing this, you can use the assembled 3mf file and arrange and slice the components in your slicer according to your needs. In case you are using Bambu Lab A1, for convenience you can use the arrangements.3mf in your slicer Bambu Studio. Please note that, in this case the print shall be done in three plates, and for convenience, there is also a sliced file with supports.

Furthermore, whatever slicer you use, please make sure you properly assign the correct color to each slot of the AMS or multicolor system, like this:

If you don't have AMS or any multicolor system, you can rely on using spray paint for the colors which should be done before any assembly.

Assembly Guide

Assembling the project is pretty simple and straight forward. There are files for both the assembled file, which is the default file and the arrangements.3mf suitable for build plate of 256 mm3.

For each component, there are hubs and channels. You can just attach them together by pressing, and simply keep it as it is, if its tight, or you can use super glue.

For assembly, it is highly recommended to follow the Autodesk Fusion file thoroughly, and being able to connect the physically printed parts with the components on the .f3d. You should go through the hierarchy of the components, and follow that same hierarchy for the assembly. That being said, there are two main components: Core Launch Vehicle & Strap-on Boosters.

The first thing that should be assembled is the Upper Stage of the Core Launch Vehicle, followed by the Core Stage. In the core stage, you should first attach the Booster Connectors using the Shells. Again, please make sure you stick to the file.

Then, you have to seperately assemble the Thrust Structure, by attaching the Engines (Engine Cluster) to the Engine Truss. Then, attach the Engine Dome. And finally, attach the whole Thrust Structure to the bottom of the Core Launch Vehicle.

The next part of the assembly involves the Strap-on Boosters. Connect the Nose Cone to the Tank A. Then, connect the Tank B, C and D together. And then connect Tank A to the rest of the current assembly.

Now the only thing remaining is the Engine Section. Simply attach it to the bottom of Tank E. With this, one of the Solid Rocket Booster is done.

Next up, simply repeat the process for another Solid Rocket Booster, and with this, the Strap-on Boosters is done. Lastly, just attach them to the Core Launch Vehicle through the Booster Connectors.

With this, the assembly is completed.

Important Note (for Construct Reviewers)

There is a file named "CosmoMatrix ORION-1 (for Construct)" which is the model intended for Construct. The model is the scaled down, details cut down, and fused file, which is intended for printing by Construct.
