.3mf profiles for Prusa Slicer and Bambu Studio
Print Recommendations & Profiles
Orientation & Stability
Luke face:
The Bambu Studio .3mf profile has the face oriented facing up and prints with variable layer height and the setting “adaptive” enabled with minimal automatic organic supports enabled.
The Prusa Slicer .3mf profile has the face oriented standing* and prints with automatic organic supports enabled. *prusa slicer does not support variable layer height with organic supports therefore the model is printed standing up with the side effect that more support is needed
The light (for the Lightsaber)
Is splitted into 2 parts using the slicer command “cut object” along its length with connecting pins. If the light for the saber (when put together) is difficult to push in the handles socket, I have made another slightly smaller lightsaber on another separate plate with 3 sizes of pins in starting at ø2,45mm and 0,05 mm increments smaller (on the overall diameter).
The mounting box:
is oriented on its edge to optimize surface finish and reduce filament waste due to overhangs.
*Supports: Organic "paint-on" supports are pre-configured on the slanting side for stability.
*Adhesion (Crucial): Due to the long, narrow footprint and 3-wall thickness, internal tension can cause the part to lift around layer 30 (~6mm).
The Fix: While brims were insufficient in testing, a 3-layer Raft solved the issue perfectly. This profile uses a raft to maximize success with minimal filament impact.
Alternative Option: If you still experience lifting, consider printing the box standing flat on its bottom (included in both .3mf files). This will require more supports for the overhangs but provides a larger footprint.
Note on Warping
If you choose to slice this yourself: be aware that the mass of 3+ walls on a narrow base creates significant shrinkage force as the PLA cools. I highly recommend sticking with the (3-layer) Raft settings provided in the 3.mf to prevent the ends from overpowering the bed adhesion.4
