This is the old version of my Baofeng Locknut Tool. I made a new version that is better in every way. Click here for the new model or find it linked as a remix.
I don't understand why this model keeps getting more attention than the newer V2 version. The V2 is stronger, more useful, and prints better than this old model. If anyone tries both versions and likes this one better, please leave a comment and let me know why!
This tool is designed to turn the locknuts on Baofeng radios. It's important to keep these locknuts tight because they secure the SMA male connector and potentiometer to the outer shell of the radio to reduce the strain felt by the circuit board. The problem is they need a tool that won't be found in someone's average toolbox. Some Baofeng radios come with volume knobs with nubs on the underside that can be used to turn the antenna locknut, but not all of them do and those nubs won't turn the potentiometer locknut.
Thank you for checking out my model. If find this tool helpful, or have feedback to share, I would greatly appreciate it if you left a make or a comment. Also, if you know this style of fasteners are found on other radios, or go by another name, please leave a comment and let me know because I wasn't able to find anything about them.
Slicing and Printing:
These are the settings I found helpful to set to get the best print. Most settings were left on default. I used PLA filament, and that worked well, but any rigid filament should do.
Orientation: as-is (narrow side up)
Wall Printing Order: Outer-Inner
Brim: No. A brim would rip off the wide end teeth
Supports: Yes only if you have issues with bed adhesion or bridging. I have tried regular supports in the gaps between the wide end teeth and that works.
Infill Type: Concentric
The tool will likely need a quick cleanup around the wide end teeth due to elephant's foot, support material (if used) or overhang material. A craft knife or small file will do a good job at removing excess plastic around the teeth and hole. Running the tool over the antenna connector threads several times can also help with cleanup.
