Intro

What better way to monitor your Centauri Carbon than with a little Centauri Carbon with CYD?

I modified the CC MINI.STL file provided with my printer to hold a 2.8" Cheap Yellow Display (CYD). I added holes in the front to mount a CYD flush with the face of the case as well as a hole for a USB cable to exit from the back. I needed to extend the top of the case a bit, and created a riser and "glass" cover for it.

Files

  • cc-monitor-ldr: case with hole for LDR (or LED on newer model CYDs)

  • cc-monitor-plain: basic case without a hole for the LDR/LED

  • cc-riser-logo: riser with Elegoo logo

  • cc-riser: plain riser (no logo)

  • glass: cover with handle (change color for handle after .4mm, if desired)

Hardware

  • Right-angle USB: shown are a USB-micro right-angle cable assembly, and a USB-C right-angle adapter with a standard USB-C cable. (Note: picture is for demonstration only - DO NOT power your CYD with 2 cables at once!!)

  • 6mm M3 bolts (2)

  • M3 nuts (2)

Notes

  • Everything needs supports (sorry about that...)

  • Printing a transparent glass cover is tough. I designed it at just 0.4mm thick and printed as 2 .2mm layers. That is the one with the transparent handle. I since learned I should print very slowly with a small layer height, so the one with the colored handle was printed with a .1mm height and does look somewhat clearer. (Still not perfectly clear...)

  • The monitoring program still needs a lot of development. I will update when I feel it is complete. If anyone is interested, I have two desktop Python programs to a) connect to the CC and record the status messages it produces to a file, and b) a player program to emulate a CC printer by sending the messages from a file to the CYD.   • If you leave off the glass cover (and the riser, if desired) it makes an informative pencil holder for your desk.

Disclaimer

This is technically a "remix" of Elegoo's original model that came with my printer, but since I cannot make a link to a file on my desktop, I cannot use the Printables Remix flag.
