I bought a very sturdy 80x80 table. It was meant for my 3D printer but the wife insisted to put it in kitchen.

Update 09/02/2026

Finally finished printing all parts. Did a small sanding of the top surfaces and all the gluing. Worked quite well.

The only note is that when all parts are assembled the interconnections don't feel very strong/stiff.

If someone is printing it, I suggest to used a reinforced filament (GF or CF) for the interconnection parts.

Added some pictures of the final result.

I bought, second hand, a very sturdy 80x80 table. It was meant for my Qidi Q2 printer but the wife insisted to put it in the kitchen...

So, it ended on my kitchen.

Anyhow, after a good cleaning, we noticed that the top surface was a little damaged.

Therefore, designed a modular cover for the table.

The Q2 has a max print area of 270x270mm and I feared that a 3x3 (9 modules) could be a little short, so I decided on a 4x4 (16 pcs) construction.

So I designed modules 201x201mm to give some play on the whole assembly. There are 3 different modules, the central tile (4x), the corner tile (4x) and the (middle) side tile (8x). These 16 modules are kept together by connection inserts (36x).

This construction is simple and allows some flexibility to adjust/align the modules and edges. Final fixation is done by gluing.

For this purpose, I chose PETG mostly because of flexibility and no warping. It prints well without supports. Imperfections in the connection insert cavities help to create some friction and keep all modules together.

It should be easy to adjust dimensions for other table sizes.

As I start printing, I noticed that a full 1kg was used in just six (and a half) modules, and now I have to order 2 additional spools of the same material to make all parts on the same color.

Be aware that this is a rather long print that will used more than 2 spools of filament and will need to be printed over several days.
