I was looking for an affordable yet fully functional hexagonal LED panels for my wall.. After thorough search with no particular success, I have decided to create and make my very first own 3D model. It has been sitting firmly on my wall for over a month now, so I am confident in sharing these files to the public as a 1.0 version, meaning I am looking forward for your suggestions on improvements.
One segment uses roughly 19m/55g of filament == you can print nearly 20 panels with one spool of PLA filament.
Every panel has square in the middle - that's no coincidence.
This serves a couple of purposes...
It allows you to stick the tape to any panel you need in order to firmly attach the structure to the wall
It enables you to use it as a wall decor and stick any panel as a unit without connecting them
It strengthens the overall structure and relieves the stress from the mid-point
Print settings:
0.2mm layer height
2 walls
10% Gyroid Infill
bottom layers - preferably 3

Print facing down. Make sure your first layer is perfect to get a top notch panel surface finish.
How to connect multiple panels?
Well... That's why this is a v1.0.... I haven't figured out an easy enough joint system to connect all of the panels, I just wanted a quick job so I could decor my wall and there's where it stopped unfortunately. The connecting system for now consists of a so called "connector" block - you just mash it between two panels and squeeze gorilla glue* between them to make a connection.
*any superglue, gorilla-glue, cyanoacrylate glue, instant glue, 10 second glue, should work just fine.
How to mount it on a wall?
Use any tape that is suitable for this job - no drilling, no mess. You can use TESA or any wall strips for easiest removal (e.g. THIS), or go with any doublesided tape; nano tape;
There's no need to cut a huge chunk of that tape, a small 1cm x 1cm square should work just fine if you place It wisely on your structure. My 12 panels are held in just 3 places with small double sided tape strips.
Please bare in mind, if you are going to remove panels, make sure you locate the ones with the tape on and preheat them beforehand so they will easily peel off from the tape - then repeat the same, stripping the tape from the wall itself.
Mounting LED's
To mount an LED strip, you need to connect panels together to make a one big structure. Then just simply peel off the double tape from the LED strip and stick it onto the channel behind the face of the panel. Go around the whole structure until you reach the beginning of that LED strip loop. You can use superglue to secure the tape in a couple of places at least but the 3M tape should be good enough.
My LED's of choice: TAPO L900-5 found on amazon for 15$, works with google home and alexa.
Feel free to make whatever figure/object you desire with those panels and share that idea with me! Looking forward to your creations and every improvement suggestions.
