Egg Template for Woodturning

This is a template of the 'average' chicken egg to aid in getting the curves right while woodturning an egg.  I use the notches on the top/bottom templates to give me a standard sized post when I'm between centers / chucked.  The site templates are identical curves, but sized to go to dead center or to that notch sized post.  There's pencil notches for egg top, bottom, and the widest point.

In use, I find I mostly use the larger of the two side templates and just hold it under or above to get a sense of where I'm at.  I rather think a scaled up side template you can just sit on the bed might be where it's at.  My current process is to turn most of the the top between centers, leaving some extra mass. Then move it to a chuck with the tailstock as a guide, refine the top, then remove the tailstock and finish the front.  Then take the back down to a post only thick enough to support sanding and polishing.  I've been sawing them off and then hand sanding the bottom, but I'm thinking a V cut with the skew might be a way to reduce that work until I get around to building an egg vice.
