You need one insert, 6 wide switch brackets (black and purple in the photo), and 2 narrow switch brackets (yellow in the photo).
Parts:
(8) Omron SS-5GL2 snap switches
(18) M3x8 socket cap screws
(18) M3 heat set inserts. I used these: https://www.prusa3d.com/en/product/heat-set-inserts-m3-standard-100-pcs/
The insert obviously needs to be cut, both to be printable and to assemble. I first made a horizontal cut of the bottom inch or so, then cut the rest in half vertically. I included the gcode file for a Prusa Core One.
To assemble, you have to disassemble the shifter, remove all of the electronics, and cut a slot at the back of the shifter so the USB port will fit. The shifter needs to be removed from the base plate to put the bottom part in, that holds the Arduino.
The wiring is simple: the bottom pin on each switch to the VBUS pin, and the middle pin each to a separate data pin. It does not matter which one, you can map them in software.
It is possible that I reassembled the shifter mechanism backward on the base plate.
The code to install on the Arduino and detailed assembly instructions are here: https://git.eksb.net/eksb/shifter
