Torivia Base – Modular Endless Truchet Tile Puzzle

Torivia Base is the foundation of the Torivia system - a modular puzzle experience built around Truchet-style tiles, where patterns naturally emerge and almost every arrangement looks good.

This project began with my grandmother. Traditional puzzles had become frustrating for her, so I wanted to design something gentler, something that still felt satisfying to arrange, but without exact matching, constant corrections, or the pressure of getting it “right.”

When she tried the first version, she completed it quickly and proudly said: “Look what pattern I made!”
That moment became the starting point for Torivia.

🌟 What makes Torivia different?
Torivia is built around a very simple idea:

• no single correct solution

• hard to place tiles “wrong”

• pleasing patterns in almost any arrangement

• open-ended, low-frustration play

• calm tactile and sensory experience

Instead of testing whether someone can find the one exact piece for the one exact place, Torivia focuses on arranging, exploring, and enjoying the visual rhythm of the board.

🧠 Sensory and stimulation
Torivia offers different levels of visual stimulation depending on the chosen insert set. Some versions are simpler and calmer, while others are more detailed or colorful.

This makes it easier to match the experience to the person using it:

• some may prefer minimal, low-stimulation patterns

• others may enjoy stronger contrast, color, and detail

The tactile surfaces and repeated handling of the tiles also give the system a naturally sensory quality.

Tile size: Each tile is approximately 5 x 5 cm (1.97 x 1.97 inches), making the pieces easier to pick up, place, and move around than many traditional puzzle parts.

Easy placement: Tiles are placed into position without snapping, clicking, or force-fitting. They simply rest in the tray, making the system easy to handle for both smaller and larger hands.

The modular tray system allows you to begin small and expand over time. Print one tray, or print many. Add more tiles and keep growing the board into a larger and larger world.

• Print your chosen insert set

• Glue the inserts into the base tiles
