19/04/2026 - Updated to V0.3
- Increased the top and bottom by 1mm to have a bit more structural integrity near the heat-set inserts (there still is a little space to increase more, but the backplate is still the same, so little need for increasing more, will experiment to see if it is possible to do without the backplate)
- Lowered the counterbore holes for the M3 through-bolt for the extrusion clamping, to improve strength of the block. Limiting the chance that the screws could crack the block.
- Increased the counterbore, so 30mm M3 screws would reach the nut socket.
- Added M5 counterbore holes, the original Qidi gantry has 2 spots where an M5 thread can be tapped into, this aligns with those holes, so that it can be attached to the carriage.
- Added version with M6 counterbore hole for tapping an M6 bolt into a (generic) aluminium 2020 extrusion (not compatible with original Q2 gantry).
- Shifted the idler shaft sockets a bit up so that there would be no hole with the gantry slot (does not change the idler position, as the shaft is a bit larger than the width of the idler, so only the shaft moves about 1mm up).
14/04/2026 - Updated to V0.2
- Holes for inserts moved to align better with the backplate.
- Added counterbore hole to bolt the X-axis gantry extrusion in place.
- Made the Idler holes a bit larger (without making the length of the slot for the metal shaft larger).
This is a more robust Y-axis carriage for the Qidi Q2. The original is easily broken and, when removed, the self-tapping screws immediately break the small bosses where they mount the backplate to the carriage bracket (original backplate is metal, so I did not design one).
Added the .STEP file if adjustments are needed.
I added holes to fix the gantry in place from the side and cutting faces (my Q2 had the gantry glued to the carriages, which broke when I was removing the tool head one day).
The design contains holes for M3 heat-set inserts. When inserting, due to the little plastic around it, you have to be careful to not let it deform and create a bulge, or decrease structural-mechanical grip of the inserts. I use a bit of electrician's tape to stop the liquid from spreading, and use a vice or pliers to keep the structure flat.
There is a small groove for using zip-ties to mount the linear bearing rigid to the faceplate/carriage.
Can be printed without supports!
