This is a developing project making almost fully 3d printed wheels for an office chair that can go through deep carpet with ease. So far the concept is there but using 608 skateboard bearings in thrust sadly just did not work in practice.
The center pin in the step file needs to be machined out of metal, I made it on a lathe out of aluminum and the retaining clip was taken from an old set of wheels, this is for holding the wheel into the chair base. The center axle is a 5/16 OD x 2in post screw with screw commonly found at hardware stores. The 608 bearings are held in place with #6 machine screws and washers, just follow the contours in the truck for locations.
As shown in the pictures this was great in theory but the first slide of the chair into the desk the bearings for rotation of the truck broke. This might be fixed simply by hard mounting the pin into the truck and leaving the rotation to the pin fitting into the chair base. More to come!
