made a car steering system, to learn more about rack and pinion joints and universal joints. The project also allowed me to learn how to apply print in place mechanisms like in the U-Joint Assembly for the same. The tyre covers must be superglued to the inner part of the main chassis as well as the one end with a hole in the U joint to the main gear.

1 place the base plate flat

2 attach the mount blocks onto the base

3 slide the rack into its slot so it can move left and right

4 insert the pinion gear and align it with the rack teeth

5 assemble the u joint by connecting its fork pieces

6 connect one end of the u joint to the pinion gear shaft

7 connect the other end of the u joint to the main steering rod

8 insert the axle rods into the wheels

9 attach the wheels onto the axle rods

10 connect the rack ends to the wheel linkages

11 make sure both wheels are connected to the rack

12 rotate the steering rod and check that the rack moves and wheels turn
