Phone Case Card Wallet Insert

This wallet insert allows me to create phone cases that

1. carry up to 3 cards,

2. let my iPhone lay flat on its back,

3. protect my hone camera lens bumps,

4. assemble without glue, and

5. allow my phone to charge on a Qi charger through the case and cards.

I designed this insert with a iPhone 16 pro in mind, but it should work with little to no modifications for most other similar size or larger phones.

Usage

This model is incomplete and is intended to be used with phone case designs to create a wallet case.  It included 3 pieces, a card keeper, a card keeper door and a card keeper negative body.  To use this design, print 1 card keeper and 1 card keeper door.  

Then use the card keeper negative body with your chosen phone case design to cut away a void in the phone case that the card keeper will sit in.  The negative body is 4.55mm thick so, in order for the card keeper to sit flush with the back of the phone case when installed, the back of the phone case should be 4.55mm thick.  This may require some remixing of whatever phone case you are using.

Assembly

The top of the card keeper has the walls and a peg sticking out out of it.  The bottom of the card keeper is the other side and is completely flat.

The top of the card keeper door is completely flat.  The bottom of the door it the other side and has a hinge on one end and a lip on the other.

To assemble the card keeper and card keeper door, insert the lip edge of the card keeper door all the way through the slot in the bottom of the card keeper.  Use a screw driver or something hard to click the door hinge pins into the corresponding slots on the card keeper.  It should now be possible close and open the door.  The door opens to a bit less than a 90 degree angle.

Benefits

3 cards is about all I ever need to take with me normally so using this wallet insert means I only have to carry my phone with me when I go out.  Since the wallet insert and phone case assembly doesn't require any glue or permanent fasteners, I can mix and match phone cases, card keepers and card keeper doors however I want.  The individual pieces are also pretty small and quick to print.  This means, for example, I can pretty quickly generate seasonal holiday phone case designs that certain members of my household really like.

Printing instructions

Layer height: 0.2mm

Material: PETG.  PLA might be ok, but I'd worry that the hinge mechanism might break.

Part orientation:  Print the card keeper with the large flat face down.  Print the card keeper door with large flat face down and the hinge and lip up.

Supports: Supports are required on the hinge pin overhangs on the card keeper door.
