This accessory set is designed for the VOLTCRAFT® DT-30LK digital laser tachometer (available at Conrad). It allows you to transform the handheld device into a stable, fixed measurement station for precisely measuring the length of thin cords and strings.
Features
Dual Mounting: Secure the device to a standard photo tripod via a 1/4" thread or fix it to a tabletop.
Cord Measurement: Includes a custom measuring wheel designed specifically for thin cords, replacing the original friction wheel.
Technical Specifications
Measurement range: 0.000 – 10.000 m; 10.00 – 200.00 m
Accuracy: better than ± 3% (tested with No. 16 100% cotton thread)
Note: Accuracy may decrease when using more elastic or smooth, slippery lines (such as monofilament)! Calibration is required for measuring thicker lines; this can be achieved by performing three separate measurements of a 10-meter length.
Materials
Material: It is highly recommended to print all parts in ABS for durability and heat resistance.
Hardware Required:
1x M3 × 27 mm screw (for the mounting clamp).
1x M3 nut.
1x Standard 1/4" to 3/8" tripod adapter (reducer) screw.
1x Small desk clamp (I used a desk clamp taken from an old pencil sharpener.)
Assembly Instructions
The Clamp: Insert the M3 nut into the dedicated slot on the side of the mount. Once seated, glue the 3D-printed plug over the opening to secure the nut permanently.
Tripod Connection: To create a durable thread for your tripod, take a standard 1/4"-3/8" reducer screw. Heat it up (e.g., with a soldering iron or torch) and carefully heat-press it into the designated hole at the bottom of the mount.
The Measuring Wheel: After printing, it is recommended to roughen the groove of the wheel using a metal hacksaw blade. This increases friction and prevents the cord from slipping.
How to Use
Secure the Voltcraft DT-30LK into the bracket. Use the M3x27mm screw to tighten the clamp around the tachometer.
Mount the bracket onto a tripod or stable surface.
Unlike the original friction wheel (which relies on surface contact), loop the thin cord once around this custom wheel.
As the cord is pulled through, the tachometer will count the rotations, allowing you to calculate the exact length based on the wheel's circumference.
