Fully Parametric Magnetic Door Catch (The "Wonky Door" Fixer)

Tired of magnetic catches that don't line up because your door or frame is slightly off-center? Most catches assume a perfect world; this one is designed for the real one.

This model is fully parametric. By using the Onshape link below, you can shift the magnet position, change the screw spacing, and resize the pocket for whatever magnets you have in your junk drawer.

🔗 How to Customize (No CAD skills required)

I have provided a standard STL, but for the best results, generate your own:

  1. Open the Customizer: Direct Onshape Link

  2. Adjust the Panel on the Left:

    • OffCenter: Shift the magnet left or right (positive/negative) to align with your door's resting position.

    • Magnet Dimensions: Set the Width, Height, and Depth to match your specific magnet.

    • Plate & Screw Settings: Adjust PlateWidth or ScrewSize to fit your existing cabinet holes.

  3. Export: Right-click the "Part Studio 1" tab at the bottom left → Export → Select STL (or 3MF) → Download.

🛠 Key Parameters Explained

  • OffCenter: This is the "magic" setting. If your door closes 2mm to the left of the frame center, set this to 2mm.

  • MagnetClip: This controls the "snap" fit of the magnet. Increase slightly if the magnet is too loose.

  • ScrewEdgeDistance: Moves the screw holes further out or closer to the center.

🖨 Print Recommendations

  • Orientation: Print with the large flat plate on the cooling bed.

  • Supports: Not needed for most configurations.

  • Walls: Use at least 3 walls for strength around the screw countersinks.

  • Material: PETG is recommended for its slight flexibility, but PLA works perfectly for light-duty cabinet doors. TPU works as well if you want sound dampening

Created with love for misaligned cabinets everywhere. If this fixed your door, please post a make!
