Retrovision Remix - Breakdown Holographic Display

I’ve been wanting a cool, retro-futuristic holographic display for my desk, but I wanted to keep the build as accessible as possible. Originally, I was messing around with macro lenses and budget projectors, but I realized that designing it around an iPad makes this way easier for anyone to put together.

This enclosure uses a classic optical illusion to reflect whatever is playing on your tablet onto an angled sheet of clear polycarbonate, making it look like it's floating inside the box. It’s perfect for digital aquariums, dioramas, or just a really dynamic monitor.

NOTE: By popular demand, this is the remixed version designed to fit standard print volumes like the Prusa MK4! I've broken the model down into smaller parts for easier printing, with a streamlined, glue-together assembly.

What You Need:

Filament: About 1kg. (I highly recommend printing the interior pieces in black or a very dark color to absorb stray light and really sell the hologram effect).

Hardware: Superglue (CA glue) for assembly.

Optics: 1x Sheet of clear Polycarbonate (8x10 inches, 1mm thick).

Screen: 11" iPad Pro (or any tablet with similar dimensions).

How to Put It Together:

1. Slide the two halves of the body together. Apply superglue in the track to bond them permanently.

    

2. Slide the two printed fasteners onto the top of the main housing to lock things into place. Apply glue into the track here as well. 

    

3. Apply superglue to the top of the legs and mount them to the bottom of the printed base.

    

4. Carefully slide your 8x10 polycarbonate sheet into the assembly.

    

5. Place your iPad face-down into the top holder, then cover it with both parts of the lid, and enjoy!
