Cover up your cheap planter with a mid-century modern planter cover!

In my living room I have a tree in a large Dollar Tree planter (see the picture on the right). The planter looks kind of cheap, so I looked into replacing it. But, wow, cool-looking planters are super expensive! So I decided to make a custom cover for it! Sure, I could make a large pot instead, but I am using an A1 Mini – also, I didn't want to have to move the tree into a new pot. So the cover I've created is modular, made of columns that wrap around the planter. You need 15 columns for the Dollar Tree planter. Each column has a printed cap to hide the top of the planter and make it look thicker and less like thin plastic from the dollar store.

Each column is made of two two-block tiles, glued together vertically to make a column. Then the columns are taped together with masking tape or painter's tape, to make a flexible screen that can wrap around the planter.

Each column has a cap that can hook onto the planter at the top, with a lip that rests on the top of the column. This hides the thin top edge of the planter so it doesn't look like a cheap planter anymore.

The final result: a large planter with a great architectural style featuring mid-century breeze block shapes!

You can line the cover with paper or fabric if you want to have a contrasting color or something.  If your planter is a different size, of course you can tweak the size a little bit. And if you have a larger printer than I do, you might be able to print more than one column at once! If you want to use this outdoors, you should print in PETG or another filament that will hold up to heat and UV better than PLA does.
