Includes the installation tool. Print both, fix your letterbox in minutes.

The original plastic pin snaps easily, usually after a heavy-handed postman forces an oversized parcel through. A replacement pair on Amazon costs £8–9 and at least one Amazon reviewer notes they had to file the hex end down to make it fit. That's your problem solved before you've even bought anything.

What's included:

  • Letterbox hinge pin (hex end)

  • Installation tool (hex socket, V-handle)

  • Pre-exported STL files for the standard size — print straight away if your pin matches

  • Parametric OpenSCAD source file — adjust every dimension to match your specific letterbox

Why parametric matters:
Letterbox pin dimensions vary between manufacturers — Yale, ERA, Trojan and others all differ slightly in shaft diameter, length, and hex size. If the standard STL doesn't fit, open the .scad file in free OpenSCAD, change the numbers, export a new STL. The installation tool hex socket scales automatically with whatever hex size you set.

How to use the parametric file:

  1. Download and install OpenSCAD (free — openscad.org)

  2. Open the .scad file

  3. Go to View → Customizer — a panel appears with all adjustable dimensions grouped by section

  4. Measure your broken pin and match the values

  5. Set part = "pin" and export STL, then repeat for part = "tool"

  6. Slice and print

Dimensions (standard STL):

  • Total length: 86mm

  • Hex head: 4mm across flats, 3mm long

  • Main shaft: 2.8mm diameter

  • Thin shaft: 2.1mm diameter

  • Tab: 7mm long, beginning 74mm from hex end

Print Settings:

  • Material: PETG — do not use PLA

  • Seam: Random - or best config to avoid the seam on the Hex Nut

  • Layer height: 0.2mm

  • Infill: 100%

  • Walls/perimeters: 6 minimum

  • Supports: Normal

  • Print orientation: Horizontal (lying on its side) — do not print vertically.

  • Tool orientation: Flat on the bed

  • Tolerance: If the pin shaft is too tight in your letterbox, increase pin_tolerance by 0.1mm increments in the parametric file. If the hex socket tool doesn't fit over the pin, increase tool_hex_clearance similarly (however this is already accounted for).
