This model is a fully-parametric OpenSCAD program for modeling circular or rectangular grates, or grills, which may have many uses.  I have printed several for the purpose of protecting young plants from voracious rabbits in my garden, but the available customization provides for addressing many needs.

Some example sizes are included in STL.

Available customizations:

shape = "round"; // or "rect"
sections = 2;           // 1 for a single piece, 2 for halves, and 4 for quadrants
inner_d = 580; // inner diameter, for round shape, obviously
size = [ 225, 190 ];    // width x length for rectangular
height = 40; // height of outer ring
wall = 5;               // outer ring thickness
grid_material = 3;      // grid thickness
window_size = 20;       // size of grid openings
md = 4; // diameter of attachment holes, if necessary
cross_h = 15;           // height of interior bracing
interior_lip = 0; // Set to positive value to add interior lip of this thickness

Most values are self-explanatory.

"Sections" enables the printing of grates that are approximately twice the two-dimensional size of your printer -- for example, a grate with a 58 cm diameter can be printed in quadrants on my Prusa Core One L with a 30x30 cm print surface (see images).  Sections include bolt holes for attachment to each other, or users may prefer to glue the pieces together.

"Interior_lip" enables users to add a lip around the entire interior of the grate's rim, which can be useful for propping the grid up over plants, for example, to provide more room for them to grow.  Lips are triangular in profile so to not require printing supports.  No lip is created if this value is left at zero.

Customization Procedure:

Ensure that you have downloaded grate-parametric.scad.

Open that file in OpenSCAD, and edit the configuration section at the top to your taste.  Optionally, users may prefer to use OpenSCAD's "Customizer" window, which this program is compatible with.  Once satisfied with your configuration, preview in OpenSCAD, and ensure that your customized unit meets your requirements.  Render the object, export to STL, and print as normal.

Printing Instructions:

  Orientation:   Best printed in the modeled orientation.
  Filament:      Depends on usage, and environment.
  Infill:        To taste, depending on user requirements.
  Walls:         2 is fine.
  Support:       None required.
