Drooling at the Prusa Signature Oak, but you're not made of money? Transform your Prusa Core One into the Prusa NoSignature Birch, the budget friendly DIY wood-skinned printer. You don't need to be an artisan woodworker to make this modification, but for the plywood panels you do need access to a lasercutter.
The modification is inspired by the Prusa Signature Oak while preserving the practicality of the Core One. 3mm plywood is used so as not to add too much weight and also for the ease of cutting thinner stock.
The modification is designed in a way that the printer itself functions as a jig for gluing the plywood panels into the printed parts, but remains completely reversible. The parts are attached to the printer with M3 screws, using existing holes. Likely the hardest part of this mod will be installing some of the screws from the inside of the printer, behind the inset sidepanels.
Hardware needed:
M3 nuts
40 x M3x6 screw
4 x M3x10 screw
16 x M3x20 screw
4 x M3x30 screw
4 x 3x6x(10-20) magnet
Assembly instructions:
After printing all the parts, start by disconnecting the wifi module from your printer. Remove the top and side plexi windows. Also recommend removing the door, contrary to the following images. Assemble the Frontframe and backframe (they are identical) and the corners. Use glue to make the joints permanent.

Place the backframe on a table. Carefully lift your printer on the backframe. Uninstall the lifting handles. Remove all but two rivets from the left and right sidepanels. Install the corners in the backframe slots. Place the fronframe on the printer, aligning the slots and clips in the corners.

Now we can install top, bottom, filamentside and empyside panel substructures. Drop some m3 nuts in all the hexagonal holes. Making sure the tabs align with corresponding slots, screw the panel substructures in place from the inside of the printer. For the bottomframe, there are nutcarriers that clip the frame in place and hold the nuts in place.

Once the frames are in place, you can glue the plywood panels in place. Use a good superglue or epoxy for best results. If you want the mod to remain reversible, do not apply glue between plywood parts and the frontframe, backframe or the corners. If you apply glue nillywilly everywhere, it will be impossible to reverese the mod without breaking something, so pay attention.
