This model is actually two things:

  • a parameterized OpenSCAD package for modeling replacement or custom pads for work-holding clamps.

  • default STL object files that will work for some common clamps, for users who would rather not customize and model their own in OpenSCAD.  These can be downloaded and printed as one would with any model.

Available customizations:

Type

Name

Description

Pad

base_t

desired thickness of the pad's base

wall

desired thickness of the pad's walls

Target clamp

clamp_name

string to identify the configuration

clamp_type

"squared" or "rounded"

foot_width

width of the foot of the clamp

foot_depth

depth of the foot of the clamp

foot_thickness

thickness of the foot

overhang

amount of pad material extending over the foot's sides and front (squared type only )

Customization Procedure:

Ensure that you have downloaded parametric-clamp-pads.scad.

Open that file in OpenSCAD, and inspect the default configurations -- which is a list looking something like this:

// Clamp specifications
specs = [
           // Bessey F-clamp fixed foot
           [ "bessey-f",   "squared",      20,     36,     3,      2.5 ],
       // Jorgensen EZ-Hold squeeze clamp, both feet
       [ "ez-hold",    "rounded", 47.8,        47,     5,      0 ],

       // Jorgensen F-clamp fixed foot
       [ "jorgensen-f",   "squared",      20,     28,     3.5,      5 ],

       // Jorgensen Pony 3/4" pipe clamp
       [ "pony-pipe",    "rounded", 48.5,        48,     5,      0 ],

];

Select the appropriate clamp specification for your application and note its identification string.  If none of the existing choices will work, measure your clamp's foot, and add your own specification.  Users who create their own specifications are invited to share them.

Find the following block, immediately below the specifications list, and replace the identification string with one you noted previously, or with your own.

// Identify the desired configuration
clamp = clampselector( "pony-pipe" );

Once satisfied with your configuration, preview in OpenSCAD, and ensure that your customized unit meets your requirements.  Render the object, export to STL, and print as normal.

Printing Instructions:

  Orientation:   Best printed in the modeled orientation.
  Filament:      TPU or other flexible material will be best for many uses, but this is clearly "to taste".
  Infill:        To taste, depending on how "soft" the user wishes the pads to be.
  Walls:         2 is fine.
  Support:      None required.
