When vacuuming your pool you can connect the hose directly to the return under the skinner basket but this runs the risk of pulling larger debris through the lines. With a vacuum adapter plate on top of the skimmer basket debris gets trapped and stays out of your pipes. If you're like me and you've misplaced the plate you originally got 30 years ago, you can print one yourself.
Specs
Adapts a US standard 1.5" (38mm) vacuum hose to a skimmer basket with a 6" (152mm) opening.
Design
Very basic F3D design with parameters for basket opening and hose diameters. Wall thicknesses picked with a 0.6mm nozzle and 0.25mm layer height in mind.
Material
While just about any material would work I would strongly recommend PETG or even better, PCTG. Both would shrug off years of use in pool water, summer heat won't bother them and both handle life in direct sunlight. Their big advantage is they're tough with just a bit of flexibility that will help them seal to the skimmer basket.
Slicing and Printing
Any machine, no supports needed. As mentioned I picked the wall thicknesses with a 0.6mm nozzle and 0.25mm layer height in mind. I used four vertical, six bottom and six top perimeters with 30% gyroid infill.
