Cloudwheel Explorer lights can be used separately from the original wheel, but there are no other wheels that accept them as is. This model fixes that for Exway's heavy duty rims for all other boards using rexus remote.

Achtung! The model is now in on a beta stage, more polished versions coming soon.

General description

The model comes in 3 pieces:

  • inner ring that keeps the light holder on the wheel

  • light holder itself

  • bumper that protects the light from any debris on the road and acts as a diffusor

The bumper itself comes in two flavors: one with a TPU skirt that is more resistant against debris and a solid one if you don't have access to TPU. There are slight differences in light holders for each version, so pay attention when choosing files to print, in future revisions I will probably unify them.

Non-printed parts

The bumper and light holder have magnets for allignment, the light holder itself has magnets to hold the light similar to the original wheels, and light holder and the inner ring are connected using bolts and locknuts to resist vibrations during riding. So the total BOM per wheel is:

  • M4 Locknuts x5

  • M4x20 or M4x22 Hex bolts x5

  • 6x2 magnets x4

  • 5x3 magnets x4, preferably n52 ones

Printing

I tried to optimize for minimal supports, so the light holder is printable without them, provided proper calibration (see bridge density experiments). The bumper will need supports for walls contacting the light although minimal if you print it with them facing down.

The inner ring is designed to have locknuts inserted mid-print.

Some tips for printing:

  • Calibrate your machine for bridging, the video for bridge density is really informative

  • You might have to fiddle with xy-compensation a bit to fit parts into a wheel as by my measurements the tolerances for it deviate around 1mm across the disk and do not make it concentrically symmetrical

If you want to make any changes, the step files are provided, so change them to your hearts content.

TODO
  • upload instructions for assembly :)

  • refactor the fusion model, decide how to upload it for ease of changing parameters

  • unify tpu and solid variants

  • make an additional adapter for new rims

Hope this helps someone, happy riding :)
