Presentation

I developped, as a personnal challenge, a portable case for my bc250. This case is equipped with a 16" flat panel, and can output audio via two 2" fullrange speakers.

This project drew some attention, and I've been asked about details. I'll share files and parts list here.

Please note that this build has gone through many prototypes, and although there are a few minor things I would have done differently, it's a complete project with no drilling, sanding or cutting required.

Note : please DOUBLE-CHECK the products behind the links. Look at references and compare pictures, sellers have a bad habit to replace products by others re-using the same page.

Mounting Instructions

  • Glue the two parts of the case together 🪛 cyanoacrylate gel glue

  • Install the rear panel with the fan already in place 🪛 M5 tapered fan screws

  • Install the speakers with inserts and soldered wires passing through the enclosure (so they are waiting to be connected to the terminals)🪛M3 x 4mm(L) x 5mm(d) brass inserts  & screws

  • Solder the speaker wires to the terminal, then glue them into place 🪛 cyanoacrylate gel glue

  • Turn the case upside down and install the 2 mounting brass inserts for the bc250 🪛M3 x 6mm(L) x 5mm(d) brass inserts

  • Install the power supply🪛 M3.5 PC screws

Now you can assemble the backplate sleeve :

  • Assemble the two elements of the backplate sleeve 🪛 2 x M5 tapered fan screws

  • Install ATX board brass inserts 🪛M3 x 4mm(L) x 5mm(d) brass inserts  & screws

  • Install eDP interface brass inserts 🪛M2 x 2.5mm(L) x 3.2mm(d) brass inserts  & screws

  • Screw the boards onto the rear sleeve (ATX board, eDP interface, fan)

  • Connect the eDP card to the ATX board (12V + GND) using a 4-pin JST connector

  • Connect the power button to the ATX connection board

  • Connect the amplifier power cable (12V + GND)

  • Connect the eDP cable to its interface (5V + GND)

At this stage, I recommend testing whether the eDP interface works properly. There is a switch to position on "auto-on" (it's in Chinese), and a blue LED that should light up as soon as the board is powered on. If the screen displays nothing or is garbled, don't panic. It seems the eDP cables have a specific orientation! Swap one connector and then the other. Once the display is operational, you can proceed with the rest :-)

  • Install the backplate sleeve onto the BC250 board

  • Place the board and its sleeve into the case. If there isn't enough room to maneuver => unscrew the bracket on the PCIe port side, loosely fix it to the case, then place the board and screw the bracket back in

  • Install the amplifier, having previously connected the power and USB cables (since once installed, it's hard to access), and route the speaker cables

  • Connect the speaker cables to their terminals (pay attention to phase and respecting left/right channels)

  • Install the screen

  • TEST :-)

  • Finalize the installation with magnetic strips on the screen and the case

Bonus: install some fibrous material inside the speaker enclosures, like Polyfill, before installing speaker drivers.
