Modular Vertical Plant Stand with Integrated LEDs

Running out of floor space for your plants? This is a sleek, modular, space-saving vertical plant stand designed specifically for small apartments. It stands at roughly 2 meters tall on a sturdy tripod base and uses a flexible, interlocking system so you can arrange your plants exactly how you want them.

The system is fully modular: planters and brackets attach to the main wooden shaft using a chunky, hand-tightened screw and a gravity-fed dovetail mechanism. This makes it incredibly easy to swap pots out or design your own custom attachments later!

Key Features:

  • Modular Design: Uses a lock-and-key dovetail style mechanism to swap or reposition pots instantly.

  • Integrated Lighting: Specific planters feature slots designed to magnetically hold cheap, rechargeable LED puck lights (specifically the Baltimore LED spots from Action, https://www.action.com/de-at/p/3207305/baltimore-aufladbare-led-spots/).

  • Drainage: The extra-large planter includes built-in drainage holes that empty into a clean, screw-off bottom reservoir.

  • Joint: Includes a custom bracket to seamlessly connect two shorter wooden dowels into a rigid 2-meter trunk.

🛠 Non-Printed Materials Needed

  • Wooden Dowels/Sticks: 30 mm diameter.

    • 3 x 40 cm (for the tripod legs)

    • Wooden shafts cut to combine for a total vertical height of ~1.6m to 2m.

  • LED Lights: Baltimore Rechargeable LED Spots (from Action) or any magnetic puck lights under 62mm.

  • Glue: 2-component epoxy (for permanently securing the tripod legs into the base bracket).

🖨 Print Settings & Tips

I printed all of these parts on my Bambu Lab printer, and they came out beautifully. The tolerances are tight but functional.

  • Filament: PLA or PETG.

  • Infill: 10–15%.

  • Walls/Perimeters: 3 to 4 walls for the structural brackets to ensure the hand-screws have plenty of plastic to bite into.

  • Supports: Needed for some parts.

🔧 Assembly Instructions

  1. The Base: Test fit the three 40 cm legs into the tripod base bracket. Pop the rounded end caps onto the feet. Once satisfied, secure the legs into the base using a 2-component glue.

  2. The Stick: Insert your first vertical wooden stick into the base. Slide on your desired number of modular connector clamps. If using two shorter sticks, use the middle joiner bracket to connect them, then continue adding clamps to the top section. Top it off with the rounded end cap. Note: there are two versions of the clamps, depending on the tolerances of your printer.

  3. The Pots: Slide your planters into the dovetail slots on the clamps. They are held securely by gravity. Tighten the chunky hand-screws to lock the clamps at your desired height and angle.

  4. The Lights: Pop the metal adhesive plates that come with the LEDs into the designated slots on the light-enabled planters, and magnetically snap the lights into place.

If you make one, please post a make! I’d love to see how you arrange your plants or what custom attachments you come up with.
