Dear model builders,
I would like to introduce you to a new model, it is an early steam tug named WERNER. The model has a scale of 1:20 and is approximately 85 cm long and 21 cm wide. The design is largely based on a drawing from the archives of the Fries Scheepvaartmuseum.
For inspiration, I also looked at a ship of the same type, the steam tug “Goudvisch”, which has been beautifully restored. https://www.facebook.com/s.s.goudvisch/
This model has a few features, including a retractable smokestack, a water-atomized smoke generator, and part of the engine room.
Because there is limited space and superstructure on the aft deck, I decided to mount the steering servo at the very back and use a small model servo.
For the electric motor I used a 5 pole brushed motor of the type 775 with a speed of 6000 rpm at 12V. I expect that this will be more than sufficient, since the hull is very slender and pointed.
I made the hull, boiler room, and engine room using an FDM 3D printer. I then treated the hull and boiler room by painting three layers of ABS-like resin onto them. I made all other parts using an SLA printer.
In "Other files", you will find a PDF with explanations and photos regarding how I assembled some parts and which components I used.
If you build this model, I would love to see photos in the “makes” section.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. It may take a while to get a reply. You can ask your questions in English, German, and my native language, Dutch.
Now I have a question for you: can someone help me make/design a figure holding the steering wheel? That would make the model just a bit more complete. Thanks in advance.
Regards, Rene76
