OpenSaucer – Modular Battle Spinner

My Battle Top for the Arena

This spinning top is built for the Open Sauce arena – designed to take hits, strike back, and quickly adapt to different battle situations.

A key feature is the “adjustable weight system”

By adding up to 12 steel balls (Ø 8 mm, ~2.1 g each → ~25 g total), the top can be fine-tuned to match different weight classes and rulesets. Whether light and agile or heavier and more stable – both configurations (with and without additional weight) are possible.

To stay ready after hard impacts, the top includes a quick-change tip system:

  • a solid full-material tip for durability

  • a version with a seat for a steel tip, ideal for hard surfaces (the steel tip itself is simply made from a standard nail)

The outer design can also be adapted:

Two interchangeable “defense rings” are available:

  • a “chisel-style” ring for aggressive attacks

  • a “spike-style” ring for deflection and control

  • Update01: a "extreme spike-style" ring for distraction and control

All components are screwed together and can be swapped quickly, making it easy to adjust the setup during short breaks between matches.

The entire model is optimized for reliable FDM printing: 0.4 mm nozzle and 0.15 mm layer height.

The result is a modular, durable, and slightly playful battle top that is ready for real arena action.

Assembly:
Please start with the lower tip and screw it into the base. Next, insert the ball cage. Then place the threaded piece in the center. Screw the desired combat ring onto the thread. Finally, screw the top piece onto the thread—tighten it by hand, and you're done.
