Summary:
A tornado and cow-themed battle top, designed entirely from scratch, with the exception of the launcher interface component, which was graciously provided by stlDenise, the host of this competition.
Another, more ambitious design uploaded. To be honest this is the one I like the most
Features:
Tornado and cow-themed design
Left-hand thread to prevent unscrewing during battle
Replaceable battle blades (cow-shaped) One could fit nearly any farm animal blade to this top.
Sacrificial shear pin to secure the blades to the body. A pin was chosen intentionally rather than a rigid locking feature. The pin is designed to shear upon heavy impact, allowing the top to continue spinning even after taking damage.
Example Print Settings:
Material: Polymaker PLA Pro
Nozzle: 0.6mm @ 225°C
Bed: PEI @ 60°C
Layer Height: 0.2mm
Supports: None
Infill: 20% cubic for testing. (100% for battle)
Brim: 5mm on the pin only
Note: The print was painted to better represent tornado coloring, though I kept it minimal since the tops will inevitably take damage during battles. For the blades specifically, I recommend printing in a material tougher than standard PLA, that said, Polymaker PLA Pro is an exceptional choice. Independent YouTube testing has shown it outperforms many filaments marketed as "tougher" alternatives, and it tends to be more cost-effective as well. It has become my go-to PLA for that reason. (No offense intended to Prusa, their filaments are excellent, but pricing in the U.S. makes Polymaker the more practical option for my needs.)
