Shelf for a faraday box for my key fobs next to a light switch at my door. I needed this light switch to stay always on.

I designed this print last month for one of several light switches I needed to be always on, this particular switch is for an outlet with a lamp (with smart bulb) and some ports by my front door. I wanted a dedicated shelf for my faraday box for my car keys, instead of keeping that on a table next to the door.

This light switch shelf was designed to be on top of a light switch plate, blocking the toggle, and to specifically to hold this faraday box (though it functions just fine as a general shelf): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07W94QLKM I bought this box in January of 2025, so keep in mind the dimensions may have changed.

The flat space in the back is to give room for the hinge of the box to open and close.

I recommend printing this with the light switch plate resting on the print plate. I initially printed this with supports for the front edge of the shelf, but as I'm a bit newer to 3D printing design, I made the trunks too thin and they collapsed mid-print. I was able to maintain the rest of the print and constantly clear off the strands from the failed supports, and thankfully the front lip bridged/overhang just fine in the end.

After printing the shelf, I realized the holes for the screws were wide enough to snap in some hooks held by friction, which I included those with this model. However, it should be kept in mind that if you use the hooks and they snap out, it can be a bit of a dig with tools (I speak from experience), therefore I'm considering updating the hooks so they have a gap in the middle in case they break, they might be easier to remove. If you choose to use the hooks, make sure to test them in the holes BEFORE screwing the shelf on your light switch plate, to ensure you get the walls/tolerances correct and that there's enough room to rotate them around. I had decided it was better to have two separate hooks instead of trying to design a stronger hook holder using both of the screw holes.
